| Here in Minnesota's
Northwoods, I can see the stars at night and listen to the frog
chorus in the neighborhood beaver pond every evening. Mr. and Mrs.
Turkey take their evening stroll through the backyard, a baby bear
happily chomps on wild raspberries in July on the "back 40" ... Having spent most of my adult life dealing with rush hour traffic and all the pluses and minuses of life as a single parent in a large urban center I'm not oblivious or naive about what life is like for the vast majority of Americans - but I am happy that my life is now measured by the changing seasons and not threat levels, pollution indices and the proximity of last night's drive-by shooting. Cable news, the internet, periodicals, and phone calls, email & letters from urban and suburban-dwelling friends & family around the country keep me in touch and don't let me forget that daily life is much more complicated elsewhere.... I'm not sure if all of that makes me a more objective observer of what goes on in the world or less so, but here you'll find my thoughts, for whatever they're worth. |
